2-Day Tours To The South Point of Finland

The Middle Ages, honey liqueur and wooden villas (Tenhola-Tammisaari-Hanko)

The tour begins in the Tenhola medieval church, where your guide will tell you about the history of the church and about its unique, medieval objects and its enormous coats of arms. Around the church, the gravestones of the war heroes form a touching chain. From the church we will drive along a beautiful road to the seashore in the Bromarf village, where we will have lunch in a former stable. After lunch we will drive back to Tenhola, to a honey farm, where we will enjoy delicious honey cakes and a sip of honey liqueur. On the farm you can buy honey products, e.g. honey shampoo and honey flavoured with lemon or orange and lots more.

From Tenhola we will drive to Tammisaari, where we will walk in the Old Town with the guide and visit the Tammisaari church and the Mannerheim Knights' monument. From Tammisaari we will drive to the southernmost town of Finland, Hanko, where we will be accommodated in idyllic wooden villas. For a light evening meal, we will have delicious "toasts", i.e. double-grilled bread with a filling of your choice, in a restaurant converted from the Hanko historical Spa’s former office building to a summer restaurant.

The following day we will follow two guided excursions in Hanko – "Stories of the wooden villas", a tour, which includes a promenade in Hanko´s famous Spa park with a guide dressed up as a 1914 spa guest, followed by a sea trip to "Gäddtarmen" – a narrow strait between two small islands. On the island we will hear stories about the noblemen, who had a major influence on Finnish history, and who have engraved their coats of arms on the islands since the 1500 century. 640 of them!

After the sea trip, we will enjoy a rich buffet lunch in Hanko´s newest restaurant, a fish- and shellfish restaurant called “Hooked” in one of Hanko´s seven harbours, the Hangonkylä harbour. You’ll then head home with lots of memorable stories, a full stomach and a “Hanko smile”!

The tour can be carried out during the summer and with some changes of restaurants, all year round, except for the sea voyage.

Porkala Parenthesis, an idyllic little town and the southernmost tip of Finland.

The guide will join you for example from the art museum Kiasma's parking lot in Helsinki city center. This way, the guided tour begins straight away and we will hear stories about how Porkkala became a Soviet marine base for 12 years. During the trip we will visit places where you can still see traces of the Porkkala Parenthesis, and visit Kirkkonummi church, where we will hear the horrific story of the “Carbon-Christ”-painting. Coffee will be enjoyed in a restaurant in Kirkkonummi.

From Kirkkonummi we will drive to Tammisaari while the will guide tell us about important places and people in the district. In Tammisaari we will walk in the Old Town and visit the Tammisaari church before having lunch by the sea. After lunch, you’ll have the chance to shop in Tammisaari – and you can use SaariTours’ special benefits (special offers only for Saaritours’ customers!)

After the Tammisaari visit we will drive to the southernmost point of Finland, Hanko, where we´ll be accommodated in wooden villas and enjoy a light evening meal in an outdoors restaurant converted from Hanko spa´s former office building.

The following day we will enjoy two guided tours in Hanko – ”Stories of the wooden villas”, which is done walking in the famous Hanko historical Spa park with a guide dressed up as a 1914 spa guest, and thereafter a sea trip to the so called ”Gäddtarmen” , 20 minutes from the guest harbor. On “Gäddtarmen” there are hundreds of names and coats of arms engraved in rocks, and we will hear stories about the noblemen behind the engravings.

After the sea trip and we will have a rich buffet lunch in a fish- and shellfish restaurant called ”Kroken”, i.e. “Hooked” in a local harbor. After lunch, the trip home can begin with a full stomach and a broad “Hanko smile”!

The tour can be carried out in summertime and with some changes in the accommodation, all year round, except for the sea trip.
